Woman dies after double stabbing

Map showing Standish, Greater Manchester A 43-year-old woman has died and an elderly woman seriously injured after both were stabbed at a house in Wigan.

Police were called to a house in Collingwood Street, Standish, on Tuesday evening.

On arrival officers found the victims, aged 43 and 73, with serious injuries and they were taken to hospital. The younger woman has since died.

A 40-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the incident and remains in custody.

Greater Manchester Police said the man will be questioned on Wednesday.

The 73-year-old woman is in a serious but stable condition in hospital.
