Teen dies and four hurt in crash

Dean O'Brien (pic courtesy of Greater Manchester Police) A teenager was killed and four others injured when a car overturned in Greater Manchester.

Police were called to a house on Woodland Road, Davyhulme, on Saturday night following reports that a Peugeot 106 had overturned in a garden.

Passenger Dean O’Brien, aged 18, of Moorside Road, Flixton, suffered fatal head injuries in the crash.

The other four occupants, aged 18 to 24, were seriously injured. One remains critical and the other three "poorly".

Dean's parents, Anthony and Ann, and his older sister Sarah, have paid tribute to the teenager, who was a keen Manchester United fan.

Trainee chef

"Dean considered himself very much a Flixton lad when we moved here 10 years ago," the family said in a statement.

"He went to local high school Wellacres and recently started working with his dad as a caterer for Virgin media in Baguley. He was due to start as a trainee chef next year.

"Dean had a large circle of friends and was in a long-term relationship with his girlfriend, Charlotte, 17.

"He was loved by all his extended family. Since the tragedy the phone hasn't stopped ringing with offers of condolences from his friends. He didn't have an enemy in the world, we are the proudest parents ever."

Police believed the car left the carriageway and hit a road sign on Woodhouse Road as it headed towards Flixton just after 2200 GMT.

Anyone who witnessed the crash is asked to contact police.
