Club death 'racist', police say

Detectives investigating a suspected murder in Bolton say they are treating it as a racist attack.

Two teenagers have been arrested on suspicion of murder after the death of a 28-year-old Asian man, who had suffered head injuries.

The victim, who has yet to be identified by police, collapsed outside the Derby Ward Labour Club in Deane Road, Bolton, on Friday night.

An 18-year-old man and a boy aged 15 are being questioned, police said.

Officers discovered the man at 2150 GMT but, despite resuscitation attempts, he died at the scene.

Superintendent Andy Durkin, of Greater Manchester Police, said: "We are treating this as a racist incident and are continuing to investigate the motive behind it.

"I would like to reassure the local community we are doing all we can to investigate this murder."

A post mortem examination on the victim was carried out on Saturday but the cause of death has not been released.

Police said the attack had no connection with the Labour Club but have appealed to customers who may have seen the incident to come forward.
