Pair are rescued from arson flat

A man and a three-year-old girl had to be rescued after a suspected arson attack on a flat in Greater Manchester.

Three fire crews were called to a blaze in the entrance of the first-floor flat on Harley Avenue in Ainsworth, Bury.

Police said the fire, which destroyed a front door, was started after a burning wheelie bin was pushed into the porch at about 2300 BST on Wednesday.

An elderly neighbour was treated for shock, but neither of the people rescued from the flat needed treatment.

Police are appealing for anyone who witnessed the arson attack to contact them.
