Elderly woman injured in mugging

A 75-year-old woman is in hospital with a suspected broken hip after being mugged in Greater Manchester.

The woman was outside Charlesworth Court in Beswick on Saturday morning when a man pushed her to the ground and grabbed her handbag before fleeing.

The elderly woman was taken to Manchester Royal Infirmary with a suspected broken hip, where she remains in a stable condition.

Police are appealing for witnesses to the attack which happened at 0930 BST.

The robber, who fled towards Manipur Street, is described as white, aged 25 to 35, thin and about 5ft 7in (1.7m) tall.

He had short black scruffy hair, a goatee beard and a round face and was wearing a grey or silver shiny top, blue jeans and black trainers.
