Streets closed as road collapses

Motorists are being warned to avoid parts of Heywood in Greater Manchester after a section of road collapsed.

Part of Bamford Road near the junction with Claybank Street collapsed just after 0700 BST.

A water main was ruptured during the collapse which has caused localised flooding in all directions.

Bamford Road has been closed in both directions and is expected to remain shut for some time. Claybank and West Starkey Street are also closed.

Greater Manchester Police, fire crews and representatives from United Utilities and Rochdale Council are all at the scene.

There have been no reports of any injuries and no properties have been evacuated.
