Fans praised after United match

Police at Old Trafford Fans have been praised by police after Manchester United's match against AC Milan passed off peacefully.

Seven arrests were made at the Champions League game at Old Trafford, for public order and touting offences.

Greater Manchester Police put extra officers on duty, following clashes between United and Roma supporters two weeks ago.

A police spokesman said both sets of fans were worthy of praise for their good behaviour on Tuesday night.

Three men were arrested on suspicion of section 5 public order offences and three men were arrested in relation to ticketing offences, one of whom was released without charge.

One man was cautioned for a public order offence.

Security scare

After AC Milan fans left the stadium, a black bin bag was found in the west stand which was initially treated as a potential suspect package, but later found to contain adult DVDs.

About 75,000 fans were at the Old Trafford ground, including 2,800 away supporters, who saw United win 3-2.

The second leg will be held next week in Milan.

Manchester United fans have demanded an apology from Italian police over the treatment they received in Rome at the Stadio Olympico three weeks ago.

Trouble flared at both legs of the Champions League tie.
