Cyclist is injured in hit-and-run

A 65-year-old cyclist has been taken to hospital with a suspected broken pelvis after he was involved in a collision with a car in Greater Manchester.

The pensioner was near Cavendish Street roundabout in Ashton when the accident happened at about 0620 BST.

Police say the car, which was similar to a white Volvo estate, failed to stop at the scene of the accident.

The road was closed for a couple of hours after the accident to allow investigations to be carried out.

The cyclist is recovering at Tameside General Hospital where his condition is described as "serious".

Police are appealing for witnesses to the incident to contact them.
