Pensioner hit by car is critical

A pensioner is in a critical condition in hospital after being hit by a car in Greater Manchester.

The 78-year-old man - who has not been named - suffered serious head injuries when he was struck by a Vauxhall Vivaro in Stockport.

The accident happened at 1130 BST on Thursday on Adswood Road at its junction with Rostrevor Road.

The man was taken to Stepping Hill Hospital where he is being treated for serious head injuries.

Police are appealing for witnesses to the accident.
