Pensioner rescued from fire dies

A 76-year-old woman rescued by firefighters from a house in Greater Manchester has died in hospital.

Crews pulled the pensioner from the house on Woodend Road in Benchill on Monday afternoon.

The woman - who has not been named - was taken to Wythenshawe Hospital but died a short time later.

Fire and police officers carried out a joint investigation to establish the cause of the blaze, but found no suspicious circumstances.
