Masked raiders leave empty-handed

Masked raiders who tried to rob a Manchester pub left empty-handed, Greater Manchester Police have said.

Two masked men, one thought to be carrying a hammer, entered the Old Plough pub on Green Lane in Ashton-on-Mersey on Monday morning.

The thieves drove off in a black Audi A3 car, which was reported stolen from the Gatley area of Stockport last week.

A member of the pub staff was assaulted during the raid and suffered a minor head wound.

Greater Manchester Police are appealing for witnesses to the attempted robbery and any sightings of the black Audi A3 car between 30 November and Monday morning.
