Funeral for double shooting teen

Kally Gillingan and Joshua Thompson Friends and family have gathered for the funeral of a teenager thought to have shot dead his ex-girlfriend before turning the gun on himself.

Mourners attended St James' Church in Lower Broughton, Salford, to remember 18-year-old Joshua Thompson.

His coffin arrived in a glass, horse drawn carriage surrounded by floral tributes to "Posh Josh", his nickname.

Relatives of his ex-girlfriend Kally Gilligan, 15, are not thought to have attended the service on Friday.

Kally was found dead at a house in Orion Place, in Lower Broughton on Saturday 10 June.

Joshua was also found with gunshot wounds and was taken to hospital but died later.

A post-mortem examination revealed they both died from a single gunshot wound to the neck.

Greater Manchester Police recovered a shotgun from the scene, but have not yet managed to establish where it was bought.

The teenager had passed his exams at college and was hoping to study for a diploma in sports science.

Monday funeral

His family said he loved Manchester United and wanted to become a PE teacher.

He was said to have been devastated when his relationship with Kally ended.

After the service, led by the Reverend Henry Martin, the family attended a private burial in Blackley.

Kally's funeral will take place at St Paul's Church in Salford on Monday.

Joshua's mother, Doreen Irvine, said: "I hope they are both left to rest in peace."
