Man critical after stab assault

A man is in a critical condition after an attack in east London in which he was stabbed twice in the back and had a noxious liquid thrown over him.

The 24-year-old, who suffered serious burns to his face and chest, was attacked after being approached by a group in Marchant Road, Leytonstone.

He managed to escape, raise the alarm, and an ambulance was called.

An 18-year-old man was arrested in the Waltham Forest area on Saturday over the attack.

He is custody at an east London police station.
