Murder charge for 13-year-old boy

Jahmal Mason-Blair

A 13-year-old boy has been charged with the murder of a promising young footballer in east London.

Jahmal Mason-Blair, 17, from Dalston, east London, died from a stab wound to his neck in Hackney early on Saturday. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The suspect was arrested at 2030 BST on Sunday and will appear before Redbridge Magistrates' Court on Wednesday.

Jahmal is the ninth teenager to be killed in violent circumstances in London this year.

In 2008, 28 teenagers were killed in violent incidents in the capital.

Jahmal had been given a trial at Reading Football Club.
