Murder probe into toddler's death

A murder inquiry has been launched after a 21-month-old boy died in Bexleyheath, south-east London.

Police were alerted by hospital staff and a post-mortem examination at Great Ormond Street Hospital revealed the toddler died of multiple injuries.

Two people, one believed to be the child's 29-year-old mother, and a 24-year-old man, have been arrested and bailed to return to police in February.

The boy, who has not been identified, died on 29 December.

A Metropolitan Police spokeswoman said: "The death is being investigated by the child abuse investigation command major investigation team based at East Ham. It is being treated as murder."

Police interviewed the man and woman on two occasions before releasing them on bail.
