Mother charged over child deaths

The house in Carshalton where the incident happened

A mother has been charged with murdering two of her children who were stabbed to death in their home.

Shanjayan Navaneethan, five, and his four-year-old sister Sharani were found with stab wounds at a house in Carshalton, south London, on 30 May.

Sasikala Navaneethan, 36, of Park Lane, Carshalton, was also charged with the attempted murder of her six-month-old daughter who survived the attack.

Mrs Navaneethan was remanded in custody by Sutton magistrates on Friday.

She is due to appear at the Old Bailey on 13 January.

The children's father, 40, who was arrested following the incident, was later released without charge.
