Bride arrested in wedding dress

Bride arrested and handcuffed by police officer

A bride was arrested and handcuffed in her wedding dress after allegedly taking part in a sham marriage to get around immigration rules, police said.

The Portuguese woman was held minutes after her wedding to a Nigerian man who now faces deportation.

The couple were arrested after the ceremony in Dulwich, south London, earlier this month.

The bride has been bailed to appear again later this month. A 37-year-old man is in custody.

Police said suspicions were aroused when the pair did not leave the church together.

They added later searches yielded fake passports and two further arrests were made.
