A police officer narrowly avoided serious injury when he was attacked with a screwdriver.

He was assaulted after chasing three men during an attempted burglary in Abbey Wood, south London, at 0450 BST on Tuesday.

While trying to restrain one of the suspects, he was injured half an inch from his eye. He needed two stitches before being discharged from hospital.

Two men, aged 18 and 19, were arrested on suspicion of attempted burglary.
