Call for post 1945 war hero names

Cpl Darren Bonner

The names of servicemen and women from north London killed in action since 1945 are to be added to a war memorial.

Relatives of those who lost their lives serving their country are being urged to come forward so the names can be engraved on Enfield's War Memorial.

It comes after the council offered to add Corporal Darren Bonner's name when his memorial plaque was stolen from Enfield Crematorium last month.

Enfield Council said it was right to make the same offer to other families.

Cpl Darren Bonner was killed in an explosion in the Gereshk region of Helmand, southern Afghanistan, last year.

Council Leader Mike Rye said: "We were disgusted to hear that someone could sink to such low depths and steal Corporal Bonner's plaque.

"After discussing this with his family we decided it would be only right to have Darren's name engraved on Enfield War Memorial.

"We then thought it would be only right and fair to make the same offer to the relatives of other service personnel from Enfield who were killed in action serving their country since 1945."
