Woman stabbed to death in street

A woman has been stabbed to death in a south-west London street.

Detectives want to trace a man who fled the scene in Lavender Hill, Battersea, just before 2130 BST on Thursday.

The victim has been identified as a 23-year-old from Wandsworth who was taken to a south London hospital where she was confirmed dead an hour later.

A murder investigation has been launched by officers from the Homicide and Serious Crime Command. Post-mortem tests have yet to be carried out.

A police spokesman said: "At this early stage we must retain an open mind regarding the circumstances and motive, but it appears there was an incident in the street with a man who subsequently made off on foot."
