Police launch fifth murder probe

An ambulance at the scene of the murder

A man stabbed to death in a north London street was the fifth murder victim in the area since January.

Bakari Davis, 24, was found lying in Bedevere Road, Edmonton, shortly after 2100 BST on Monday.

Post-mortem tests showed Mr Davis, from the Edmonton area, died from a single stab wound to the chest. Police are keeping an open mind as to the motive.

The murder is the fifth in Edmonton since the start of 2008 - four of the previous victims were teenagers.

University student Michael Alexander Jones, 18, was found beaten and stabbed to death in his Edmonton home last month.

Two weeks earlier, Ofiyke Nmezu, 16, from Upper Edmonton, died from a head injury during an assault in Fore Street.

No arrests

Boduka Mudianga, known as Louis, was stabbed to death on 21 January.

And Henry Bolombi, 17, was stabbed to death in Plevna Road, hours after celebrating the New Year in central London.

Regarding the latest murder, a police spokesman said: "We retain an open mind re motive [for the killing] at this very early stage."

Officers have appealed for witnesses to the incident and of the three men, described as black, seen running from the scene.

So far no arrests have been made over the latest incident. Inquiries are continuing.
