Guests evacuated from hotel blaze

Firefighters tackle the blaze at the Custom House Hotel Hotel guests were forced to spend the night in a school when a fire broke out at an east London hotel.

About 100 people were evacuated from the Custom House Hotel on Victoria Dock Road, Canning Town, when the roof and fifth floor caught fire on Friday.

No-one was injured in the blaze which was reported at 2039 GMT.

Parts of Victoria Dock Road and Freemasons Road were closed. Docklands Light Railway's Custom House station was also closed.

Ten fire engines attended the scene of the blaze, along with two aerial appliances, which allowed crews to douse the flames from above.

The blaze was brought put out shortly before midnight but crews remained damping down overnight.
