Journey times for bus users have been reduced thanks to improvements in traffic enforcement, a study shows.
The Transport for London (TfL) report found the average waiting times for buses on London's red routes fell by 15% between 2000 and 2005.
Bus travel times were nearly 13% faster in bus lanes compared with non-bus lanes, over the period 2000 to 2005.
Transport watchdog TravelWatch said the study's findings were "great news for road users".
Change in behaviour
Compliance with bus lane restrictions has also improved with an 85% drop in the number of fines issued to motorists between 2003 and 2005, the report says.
TfL is in charge of enforcing traffic regulations on London's 580km red route network, which carries 35% of the capital's traffic.
Patrick Troy, TfL's head of traffic enforcement, said public information campaigns have led to a "real change in driver behaviour".
A TravelWatch spokesman said: "We have always called for better enforcement of road restrictions."
