New road repairs after heatwave

Work is planned on a main road in Lincolnshire amid fears hot weather had made earlier repairs unstable.

Potholes in the A17 at Byard's Leap, near Cranwell, had been filled but temperatures reaching 30C (86F) had caused the material to melt.

Work to use a more durable material is scheduled to begin on 13 July.

The repairs are expected to take three days to complete, and Highways officials have advises motorists to avoid the area and expect delays.

Rowan Smith, Area Highways Manager, said: "These potholes have already been temporarily repaired, but as the temperature rises the filling has a tendency to become fluid.

"Under continual traffic action, this leads to the material creeping out of the pothole and on to the road surface.

"In light of this, we have decided to take action now to repair the potholes permanently before they become unsafe."
