Plans to cut rural road accidents

Plans have been announced to spend £2m reducing accidents, fatalities and injuries on Lincolnshire's roads.

The road safety project will start with motorcycle safety training.

The new Rural Demonstration Project (RDP) is to be unveiled at Cadwell Park on 7 October.

Lincolnshire is one of four road safety beacon authorities invited to participate in the scheme by the government's Department for Transport.

Ten years ago Lincolnshire's roads had one of the highest death rates in Europe.

It is hoped the two-year programme will enable Lincolnshire County Council and the county's Road Safety Partnership (LRSP) to develop a range of education, enforcement and engineering measures to reduce accidents.

County council leader Councillor Martin Hill said: "We are keen to share our good practice around the country and are committed to further improving safety on our highways, particularly the rural road network."
