Delivery driver attacked with gas

A van driver has been sprayed in the face with what is thought to be CS gas while parked in a Lincolnshire lay-by.

The 55-year-old Parcel Force worker was eating his lunch in the lay-by on Louth Road, Holton Le Clay, when the attack happened on Wednesday afternoon.

The offender demanded the driver get out of the van and then sprayed him.

The victim drove a short way to a garage and called for help. Police are appealing for witnesses.

'Alter tea-breaks'

The attacker, described as a white man, 18 years old, about 5ft 6ins tall and wearing a dark green hooded top, fled on foot in the direction of Grimsby.

Police are advising delivery drivers to vary their locations when stopping for breaks.

A spokesperson said: "Although we can't yet confirm if the delivery driver was targeted, it could be he may have been as he uses this lay-by regularly to stop for lunch.

"For the drivers who follow the same daily route our advice is simple: to avoid being targeted, alter your tea-break locations."
