County marking Olympic handover

Celebrations are being held in Lincoln to mark the closing ceremony of the Beijing Olympic games and the handover for the London 2012 event.

Demonstrations and a procession will take place in the city square.

Flags marking the handover are also being raised around the county in honour of the occasion.

Chief executive of Lincolnshire Sports Partnership Steve De Wint said it was only right for the city play its part in the celebrations.

He said: "We felt that it was important that in Lincoln we were able to combine the resources of the county council, the city council and the university to try an put on a celebration which joined us together with members of the Chinese community here and everybody else in the county that wants to see this sort of focal point for the Olympics coming to the county."
