Cash for primary school kitchens

Up to 40 new school kitchens will be built across Lincolnshire after more than £4m of funding was secured.

The money has been confirmed by the government to make sure more children have access to locally cooked meals.

All secondary schools have kitchens but only a handful of the 283 primary schools do, although 80% of those without kitchens get meals sent in.

Meal take-up in the county's primary schools rose last year while remaining static in secondary schools.

Outside catering

At the moment, 30 private catering suppliers provide meals for 159 primary schools, with 30 schools providing meals for an additional 64 primary schools.

Patricia Bradwell, Executive Councillor for Children's Services at the county council, said the final decision on where the kitchens would be built had not been made yet.

"The new kitchens will be provided in those areas which are identified as having the most need, and where they will be most effective.

"That information will be made public in time for the new school year."
