Legal graffiti sites are set up

Young people are being encouraged to daub graffiti - without the risk of getting into trouble - at two sites in a Lincolnshire town.

Environmental charity Groundwork has set up the project in Gainsborough along with police and local councils.

The designated areas are at the skate park and at the back of the Pavilion.

A Groundwork spokesman said they were hoping young people would produce "colourful artwork" at the two locations in the town.

Martyn Ely from Groundwork said the town did not have a major problem with graffiti compared to other places.

"What we're looking for is young people with a talent to come down and try and get rid of all the horrible silver panelling we have on the sides [at the skate park] and turn it into nice colourful artwork.

"It [Gainsborough] doesn't have a really bad problem compared to other places around the country but it has its fair share of issues and problems which the councils and police try and deter.

"We're encouraging people to come down and use this site which is the first legal graffiti site anywhere in the county."
