Rail upgrade to cause disruption

Rail bosses say they hope to keep disruption to rail services in Lincoln "to a minimum" during a construction project at the city's rail station.

The £55m Network Rail scheme will run until 1 September.

The old signalling system will be replaced by a computer-controlled one and 22 sets of switches and crossings will be renewed during the work.

Replacement bus services will run between Lincoln and Sleaford, Newark and Doncaster.

Network Rail route director Dyan Crowther said: "This project is the first major investment in Lincoln's railway for many years.

"We've listened carefully to the people of Lincoln so we are able to carry out the final phase of this important work with the minimum of disruption.

"Network Rail's investment will benefit passengers by allowing for a better rail service."

Lincolnshire County Council said diversions will be in place around the station so extra time may be necessary for journeys in the area.
