More post offices to face closure

A new set of Post Office closures in Lincolnshire has been proposed.

Seven branches in Boston, Skegness and Spalding are facing the axe with another in Boston being replaced with an "outreach solution".

Post Office Ltd has already said it wants to shut almost 50 post offices in the county as part of a national programme to reduce losses.

A six week consultation period now begins, during which objections from the public can be registered.

The branches which are in line to close are Drummond Road and Sea View Road in Skegness, Wrangle Common and Brothertoft Road in Boston and Lutton, Moulton Seas End and Weston Hills in Spalding.

Gipsey Bridge near Boston has been selected for an outreach service, which is usually either a mobile service or a counter in another outlet.

Post Office Ltd wants to shut about 2,500 branches nationally, pointing out that more than 80% of the rural network is not profitable and the network loses more than £4m each week.

But the closure programme has already provoked a series of campaigns and protests.

In March the residents of Langworth staged a march to Downing Street after comparing the consultation process to "talking to a brick wall".
