Fire hit seafront plans submitted

Part of architect's plan

Plans for a Lincolnshire resort damaged in a fire have been put forward.

A large part of Skegness's Grand Parade - centred on an amusement arcade - was destroyed in August. The cause of the blaze was never identified.

East Lindsey District Council said the plans include a hotel, bars, restaurants and underground parking.

They have been put forward by Bells Leisure who own half of Grand Parade. There will be a public consultation period next week.

Bells Leisure wants the complex to be twice the size of the original amusement arcade but that depends on buying more land from the council.

Prime location

The plans were described by James Gilbert from East Lindsey District Council as "ambitious and iconic".

He added: "The site was destroyed by a fire last summer, but as a district council we looked at this as an opportunity to take Skegness into the future.

"It's a perfect site in the middle of the seafront and it really is a great site for redevelopment."

"The proposals look really exciting and we look forward to considering them through the planning process in the coming weeks."

There will be an exhibition at the Embassy Theatre, across the road from the Parade Arcade Complex, on 7 April.
