Medieval hall to reopen its doors

Ayscoughfee Hall in Spalding will have newly installed interactive displays illustrating the house's history.

Designer Mike Oakenfull said the medieval ceilings and windows are a highlight of the hall.

It will also have interactive games to encourage children to learn more about the history of the house.

Mark Croston, of South Holland District Council, said: "A great deal about the history of the house has been discovered during the work."

Several small rooms that were closed will now be open to the public, he said.

The hall, which was originally built as a home for local wool merchant Richard Alwyn, will officially reopen on Friday.

It was purchased by the council in the early 20th Century and since then has served as a library, school, council offices and museum.
