Crowds expected at city festival

About 30,000 people were expected to congregate in Leicester city centre for its Mela festival.

The city's 24th Mela festival is being held around the Clock Tower and Humberstone Gates areas and will run from 1100 to 1800 BST.

The event will include live bands, Bollywood dancing shows, food, fashion and crafts from South Asia.

Local performers will also be given a chance to showcase their work on the opportunity stage.

Mela means 'gathering' in the Indian Sanskrit language.
