Second battle for wind farm group

Campaigners in Leicestershire have said they will fight plans for a wind farm - just weeks after another scheme was turned down.

Power company Ridgewind has submitted proposals for eight 310ft (94m) turbines at Normanton, near Bottesford.

In November a scheme by Infinergy, on land just 250m away, was rejected by the planning inspector.

Now some residents are organising a public meeting to oppose the new plans, which they say will spoil the area.

Year-long campaign

Pandora Mawer, of local pressure group Belvoir Locals Oppose Turbines, said: "We are certainly not prepared to give up now having spent a year of our lives - on top of jobs and things - protecting this area.

"We are not going to give up and we will continue to fight on."

The group are holding a public meeting to allow locals to voice their concerns.

Ridgewind held an exhibition of its plans in Bottesford over the summer and said it had no plans to attend the meeting.

A spokesman added they were confident their scheme would be accepted as they had attended to the visual impact issues which had stopped the earlier plan.

If it goes ahead, the wind farm could be producing enough power for 8,000 homes by 2011.
