Man killed and two hurt in crash

A man has died after a crash involving four vehicles in Rutland.

The incident took place late on Monday afternoon on the A606, Empingham Road near Tinwell and involved four cars - a Rover 114 and three Vauxhall Corsas.

The driver of the Rover, believed to be a man in his 70s, was seriously injured and was taken to Peterborough General Hospital, where he later died.

Two of the other drivers were treated for minor injuries. The police have appealed for witnesses.

Det Con David Sharpe said: "The Rover was travelling towards Oakham and the three other vehicles in the opposite direction.

"We're keen to speak to anyone who witnessed the incident or who saw any of the vehicles in the moments leading up to the collision."
