Police patrols reassure village

Police in Leicestershire have invited residents to talk to them about problems as they patrol the streets.

A rise in complaints about anti-social behaviour in Birstall has brought a response from both the county council and local police.

Council workers have been removing graffiti and extra police patrols have been put in the area.

But anyone who still has concerns has been invited to speak to officers who will be in the neighbourhood.

'Swift action'

Sgt Marcus Lee said the area was not especially bad for anti-social behaviour but they did not underestimate the problem.

"Birstall has traditionally had a problem with groups of youths meeting there but I can only take that from anecdotal evidence from the officers who I work with and some of our partner agencies.

"However, this one has been highlighted and it will be dealt with as swiftly as we can."

He added that residents were invited to discuss any concerns with patrols that would be in the area.
