M1 driver warning as work starts

Drivers using the M1 in the East Midlands could face delays as a number of roadwork projects get underway.

In Nottinghamshire, between junctions 26 and 27, lanes will continue to be narrowed, the hard shoulder closed and a 50mph speed limit enforced.

In Derbyshire, new overnight lane closures and a 50mph speed limit will be in operation as work to repair a bridge near Bolsover takes place.

Resurfacing between junctions 20 and 21 in Leicestershire is also set to start.

Both carriageways will be reduced to a single lane and a 50mph speed limits overnight will be in place until 5 December.

The work in Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire should be completed by November and Christmas respectively, according to the Highways Agency.

A spokesperson said drivers should allow extra time for journeys and check updates before travelling.
