Boy's head 'kicked like football'

A teenager's head was kicked like a football as he lay bleeding to death in the street, a murder trial has heard.

Bradley Whitfield, 16, was killed as he walked back with three friends from a party on New Year's Day in Leicester.

His friend Jordan Tighe told Nottingham Crown Court the teenager was attacked with bottles and a pole by four people.

Nicola Faulds, 32, and Darren Carr, 35, of Caldecott Road, Braunstone, both deny murder along with two teenagers who cannot be named.

Bottle attack

The victim's friend Jordan Tighe told the court how they had been walking home in a "merry mood" when another group of four approached them near the junction of Fulhurst Avenue and Fosse Road South.

He said the younger man in that group starting staring and shouting at them, then the woman in the group hit the victim with a pole, before two men repeatedly attacked him with bottles.

Jordan Tighe told the court he hit the older man with some plastic tubing he had grabbed from a garden but to no effect.

He said the man then ran up to the victim and kicked him in the head.

Prosecutor Richard Latham QC asked: "What sort of kick was it?"

The witness replied: "Like he was kicking a football."

Mr Tighe said the attackers then ran off.

Darren Carr's barrister put it to Jordan Tighe that in fact the woman had been punched to the ground and the older man had only swung the bottle after that.

Jordan Tighe denied this was the case, saying: "Not once did I see the woman on the ground."

The trial continues.
