A broken water main has caused traffic congestion and flooding in Leicester city centre.
A major clean-up and repair operation was started after the 10-inch (25cm) water main burst, Severn Trent officials said.
A section of London Road was closed off while engineers worked on the pipe.
Andrew Marsh from Severn Trent said: "It has broken up the road surface and affected at least three properties. It is a major repair job."
A section of London Road near the junction of Stoughton Drive and Knighton Road was closed early on Sunday morning.
"The repair could take most of the day to complete," he added.
"The road closure is frustrating for people living in the area and we apologise for any disruption this has caused.
"We don't think anybody will lose water supplies...as we can divert water from other areas."
