Roadworks to begin near airport

Passengers for East Midlands Airport are being advised to allow extra time for their journeys as major roadworks in the area begin.

The Highways Agency will be carrying out essential maintenance work at the A453 Finger Farm Island from Wednesday 10 September.

The A50 link road to the M1 will also be affected with some overnight closures due to be carried out.

The work is expected to continue until the end of September.

Karen Green, Highways Agency project manager, said: "We are carrying out this maintenance work at night when traffic flows are at their lightest but obviously this is a key roundabout used to access East Midlands Airport, Donington Park and Donington Services.

"We are ensuring that we are providing as much information as we can to help people plan their journeys and arrive at their destination safely and reliably."
