Bat mugger hits own gang member

Police are hunting a suspect who may have suffered facial injuries when he was hit by a member of his own gang with a baseball bat.

Three teenagers attacked a 41-year-old man on a bridge over Friday Street in Leicester and demanded money.

He suffered injuries to his head and face but it is thought one of the blows missed and struck an assailant.

The suspects, described as white, skinny and aged 14 to 17, stole £20 and then ran off towards Abbey Park.

Police appeal

The incident happened in the early hours of Tuesday morning.

Det Con Sean Lynch said: "We believe that during the incident one of the offenders swung the baseball bat to hit the victim and missed, hitting one of the other offenders in the face.

"We are interested in hearing from anyone who knows someone who came home in the early hours of Tuesday morning with a facial injury."
