Guards to patrol city bus route

Security guards are to patrol buses operating in Leicester in an effort to deter anti-social behaviour.

The guards, who will wear high visibility jackets, will ride on the buses running between the city and Beaumont Leys.

Asif Bhimani from First, which operates the route, said it is hoped the move will make passengers feel safe and also cut down on ticket dodgers.

If the project is successful it could be rolled out across the city.

Mr Bhimani said: "Safety and security are both of paramount importance to all who are involved in delivering a service on behalf of First.

"We feel that passengers who ride our vehicles should have a safe and comfortable environment in which they can travel.

"The trained guards will ride the buses and provide a sense of security to ensure their journey is pleasant."
