Man assaulted by group of youths

Detectives in Leicester are appealing for witnesses after a 22-year-old man was attacked by a gang of youths in Jarrom Street in the city centre.

The attack happened at around 0315 BST on Thursday when the man was assaulted by five or six youths using either metal bars or baseball bats.

The victim was taken to Leicester Royal Infirmary where his condition is described as stable.

The suspects are described as Asian, aged in their late teens or early 20s.

They left the scene in two vehicles, possibly a Vauxhall Vectra and Mercedes-Benz Kompressor, police said.

Det Sgt Rob Widdowson from Central CID said: "The victim had been in the Level 1 bar at the De Montfort Student Union prior to the attack.

"We're keen to speak to anyone who witnessed the assault or who perhaps saw a group of youths in or around Jarrom Street in the early hours."
