Man burnt as trousers catch fire

A man is being treated for serious burns after accidentally setting himself on fire.

After finding him collapsed on Welford Road, Leicester, police originally suspected he had been the victim of a hit and run driver.

But after watching CCTV images, officers believe he set his trousers on fire while trying to light a cigarette.

The man was first treated in Leicester but has now been transferred to a specialist burns unit in Birmingham.
