Work is due to officially begin on the new extension to the Shires Shopping Centre in Leicester.

More than 100 people are attending the ceremony, including developers, Leicester City Council and the Leicester Regeneration Company.

The extension is costing £350m and will include the city centre's first multiplex cinema, 120 new homes and 3,000 parking spaces.

The whole project should be completed by 2008.
