At Leicester Crown Court, Jason King, 33, originally from Ghana and known as Eric Asare, admitted two counts of rape and one of indecent assault.
King was given a 10 year sentence for the first rape and an indeterminate life sentence for the other two counts.
It was confirmed that he will be deported on release.
King raped two prostitutes and indecently assaulted a young women over a seven month period in 2005.
In all the attacks, King grabbed the women from behind and gagged them with his hands before he assaulted them.
'High risk'
King was told he would have to serve a minimum of six years eight months before he was eligible for parole.
King's attacks begun in February 2005 when he assaulted an 18-year-old prostitute in the Highfields area of Leicester.
King's second victim was a 19-year-old woman who he attacked as she was walking near a wooded area in Beaumont Leys in March last year.
King's final attack was on 19-year-old prostitute in Leicester last September who he assaulted in a park behind the city's Belmont Hotel, off London Road.
He was arrested shortly after the attack following information the last victim gave to the police about the car King was driving.
The court was told a probation service report had concluded King had a "high risk" of re-offending.
