A 69-year-old man has been left with serious head injuries after being hit by a car in Lancashire.

The man, from the Lancaster area, was walking on Bowerham Road in Lancaster, when he was struck by a grey Citroen car at about 0942 BST, police said.

He was taken to the Royal Preston Hospital, where he is said to be in a serious condition.

The 71-year-old driver of the vehicle was also taken to hospital suffering from shock but has been discharged.
