Man seriously hurt in car crash

A man is seriously ill after the car he was travelling in crashed into a set of traffic lights in Preston.

The 21-year-old was hurt in the collision on Riversway, near the docks, just after 1500 GMT.

He was taken to the Royal Preston Hospital to be treated for serious head injuries.

Lancashire Police said the road was closed in both directions near the junction at Pedders Lane and drivers were being advised to avoid the area.
