Man killed as car hits lamppost

A 44-year-old man has died in a road accident in the Bispham area of Blackpool, Lancashire Police said.

Gary Maddocks, from the Thornton Cleveleys area, was driving a Vauxhall Tigra car which hit a lamppost on Bispham Road at about 0610 GMT.

A section of road near the Squirrel pub was closed while accident investigators examined the area.

Any witnesses to the accident are asked to contact the police. No-one else was injured in the crash.
